With the mission of supporting the work that is being carried out on the ground to neutralize the forest conflagration in the eastern hills of the municipality of Villa de Leyva, Boyacá, the Colombian Air Force deployed a UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter of the Military Transport Air Command, CATAM, in Bogotá, to extinguish the fire that has already completed one day.
The helicopter, which moved from Air Combat Command No. 2 up to the capital city of the country, started the water drops with retardant liquid with its Bambi Bucket system this morning, combating more than 10 critical spots, which have so far hit 200 hectares of native forest.
The crews of this UH-60 aircraft, join the work of more than 120 members of Colombian National Army, the Civil Defense, firefighters from nearby municipalities and the different relief agencies, who are part of the operation to fight the fire of the ground and prevent it from spreading to nearby municipalities such as Chíquiza.
