Alias Guanábana surrendered to troops of the San Mateo Battalion, thanks to the constant operation in the departments of Risaralda and Chocó.
The continuous operations carried out by Colombian National Army with troops of the Eighth Brigade, the Field Artillery Battalion No. 8 San Mateo and the research work framed in the Ayacucho Plan, in the bordering area of the department of Risaralda and the department of Chocó, led to the surrender to justice of an individual who, for a year and a half, belonged to the GAO Clan del Golfo, Heroes de Jesus Carretera substructure.
Alias Guanábana was at the service of this organized armed group as a combatant in firearms, he was in the same way part of the urban network on logistics and criminal intelligence issues in the area of interest of the military operation between Risaralda and Chocó and in the municipalities of Certegui, La Unión Panamericana, Itsmina and Quibdó, in Chocó department.
This person said that he made the decision to this surrender because he felt that his life was in danger, and he informed Colombian National Army of his intentions to rejoin civil society under the legality, with the support of the Humanitarian Assistance Group to the Demobilized, led by the national Government.
With this result, Colombian National Army hit the strength of the armed structure of this GAO, and also decrease the capacity of urban support networks and criminal intelligence.
The Eighth Brigade continues to carry out military operations in the area, always respecting human rights and international humanitarian law, in order to weaken the terrorist groups that intend to hit the tranquility of the Coffee Axis region. At the same time, it invites those who are members of these organized armed groups to come voluntarily and start a new way accompanied by their families.
