The 12,000 men who make up the Thirteenth Brigade will be available 24 hours a day this weekend, to ensure the normal development of electoral activity.
Within the framework of the Democracy Plan, the Thirteenth Brigade of the National Army has already launched the operation that works to improve security and the normal development of the second round, for presidential elections this Sunday, June 19, where more than 6,000 soldiers will be in strategic points and all the personnel of the unit is working for this activity.
The project covers the city of Bogotá, 111 municipalities of Cundinamarca and two of the department of Meta. The soldiers will be stationed in Bogotá at 10 polling stations especially in the 20th locality of Sumapaz, 2,400 men will work in the security in the vicinity of the polling stations and 1,000 will be protecting strategic assets and supporting critical points. In total, in specific security and control tasks, the capital city will have 3,400 army men.
In the same way, in Cundinamarca, 2,200 soldiers will be at 136 polling stations and about 200 at the checkpoints of the municipalities of the Meta department, which correspond to the area of responsibility of the Thirteenth Brigade. The work will in the same way be framed in the access control to rural voting points, through the operation on tertiary national roads.
In the capital city, the work will again be focused on the control of access roads, with checkpoints at each of the entrances and exits of the city, but in the same way on the main road routes of Cundinamarca that lead to the center of the country.
The Thirteenth Brigade will have units supporting the unified command posts (PMU) coordinated with the other authorities. In Bogotá there will, in the same way, be information liaison officers with the mayors, the Mayor's Office and the Governorate of the department.
The 12,000 men and women of the Thirteenth Brigade of the National Army, will be working directly and indirectly within the operation to shield the capital city of the country and the department of Cundinamarca during this new electoral activity, in which citizens will be able to exercise with tranquility their right to vote.
