In an effort to improve the quality of education in rural areas, the Air Combat Command No. 4, CACOM 4, of the Colombian Air Force, in collaboration with INALDE, has given a fully equipped virtual classroom to the Nasa indigenous people (Paez) of the Potrerito indigenous reserve, in La Plata, Huila. This project seeks to provide technological tools that facilitate the instruction and training of its members.
The activity started very early, when a group of men and women from CACOM 4 boarded a Huey II helicopter heading to La Plata. The mission, with a high sense of social responsibility, included a technical stop of the helicopter before continuing with the journey. After two hours of flight, the characteristic sound of the helicopter echoed over the horizon, awakening the illusion and hope on the faces of the members of the indigenous people, aware of the positive impact that this improvement would have on their daily lives.
With the distribution of computers, desks, school kits, boards, chairs and projection devices, the virtual classroom represents a significant step towards closing the digital breach in remote areas where indigenous communities have lacked access to these tools.
The initiative, which seeks to improve education and promote cultural development in the Nasa people territories, in the same way reflects the commitment of the institutions involved in promoting access to education and technology. Thanks to this collaboration, the students and teachers now have resources that facilitate more interactive and enriching learning.
