In recent hours, Colombian Navy crew members during the maritime evacuation of a pregnant woman of the community of Juanchaco towards the port of Buenaventura in the department of Valle del Cauca, supported the birth on board the rapid reaction unit.
The evacuation operation began when a request for support of the Juanchaco health post was received to urgently evacuate a 37-year-old woman who had symptoms associated with severe preeclampsia; a rapid reaction unit of the Buenaventura Coast Guard Station was immediately sent to the area and assist in the emergency.
When they arrived in Juanchaco, the woman, two relatives and the rural doctor of the health post of this community were embarked and began the maritime journey to Buenaventura. During the displacement, the woman began labor near the sector of La Bocana. She was assisted by the rural doctor of the health post with the support of the Colombian Navy crew and the patient's family.
After making a brief stop at the dock of La Bocana to receive medication and finish the labor, the maritime movement continued towards the dock of the Pacific Maritime Signaling Group in Buenaventura, in which an ambulance received the woman with her newborn girl. They were taken to a medical center in the city where they are currently without complications or risk to their health.
