Minister of Defense, Diego Molano, announced important operations and commitments to guarantee security in the department of Vichada and achieve the eradication of illicit plantations.
After a Security Council held in Cumaribo, the Minister said that there will be more work by the Military and Police Forces and said that "without truce we will be in the defense of Vichada, Cumaribo, in the defense of the peasants and all the families of this department."
In addition, Minister Molano highlighted the commitment of the Governor, Álvaro Arley León, as well as the Mayors, to make Vichada a territory free of illicit plantations by the end of 2021.
“This implies a very large effort in eradication, what is needed in the control of drug trafficking routes and additionally in the alternative development programs that have been conducted," he said in a statement issued at the end of the Security Council.
He added that soldiers and police officers of land, sea and air, are there to ensure tranquility, especially to exercise national sovereignty.
The Minister explained that patrols on the rivers of the border area and within Vichada will in the same way be strengthened.
"A special plan has been determined to support the infrastructures of the National Police, as well as accompaniment with the Judicial Police, to conduct the processes of prosecution and support to the Prosecutor's Office to ensure that the fight against crime progresses," he said.
In addition, Minister Molano confirmed that a working agreement has been made to link the Military Forces to a program to improve the mobility of the number of units in this area of the country.
The Security Council led by the Minister of Defence was conducted in the facilities of the Motorized Infantry Battalion No.43, of the Twenty-Eighth Brigade of the Army, with the high military and Police commanders, the governor of Vichada, Álvaro Arley León, and the mayors of Cumaribo, Puerto Carreño, La Primavera and Santa Rosalía.
