In fulfillment of the mission of safeguarding human life, the Colombian Navy coordinated the evacuation of a 39-year-old Wayúu woman, in state of pregnancy, who had severe ailments in the abdominal area.
The woman approached the Coast Guard Station of Punta Espada, in the municipality of Uribia - La Guajira, where troops were carrying out a Development Support Activity aimed at the indigenous communities of the region. On the spot, medical personnel checked the health status of the woman and the unborn baby, determining the need to evacuate them to a higher-level medical center.
Immediately, the Colombian sailors carried out the necessary coordination, including the timely evacuation of the woman to the San José Hospital in the municipality of Maicao - La Guajira, where they received specialized medical assistance.
