Nariño. A Coast Guard patrol was conducting search and control operations in the general area of Tumaco, in the department of Nariño, when the troops saw the two fishermen floating with the arms up, as a help signal. The two people rescued said that they were carrying out rudimentary fishing, when suddenly the wooden boat, canoe type, in which they moved, turned by the heavy waves and began to sink.
The fishermen, 31 and 37, as they do every morning since they were children, had gone out to their fishing task; however, this time the sea played a trick on them, during the two hours they were adrift, until the moment they were rescued by the National Navy.
They assure that, although they lost everything, they will go back to the sea to fish, but the next time they will do it with life vests, and they appreciate the constant presence of the naval institution, protecting and ensuring the safety of the fishermen's guild.
The rescued, who were in good health, were taken to the facilities of the Coast Guard Station of Tumaco, where they received food and then, they were taken home, healthy and safe.
