With these arrests, peace of mind is restored to the families of the region, who were denouncing the criminal operations of these individuals.
Troops of the Santander Military Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group), in an inter-institutional work with the Technical Investigation Corps (CTI) and the Attorney General's Office, arrested in flagrante delicto two men who apparently posed as members of the ELN, to carry out extortion in Puerto Parra and Cimitarra, Santander.
The facts were reported in the Riveras del Carare de Cimitarra sector, where after the denunciation filed by the victims, it was possible to find these individuals, responsible for intimidating the administrators and owners of livestock farms in this region, in order to collect money in exchange for, supposedly, safeguarding their good physical condition.
Those arrested were found by troops in possession of three handguns, magazines, cartridges, aerosols, more than eight million pesos in cash that they had just received as a result of extortion, cell phones, military accessory material and documents of value for intelligence work.
The inhabitants of this region were denouncing a few weeks ago the perception of insecurity due to the threats they received from these men. Today, thanks to their denunciations, it was possible to effectively find and arrest them. With these military operations, we are restoring peace of mind to the families of this productive sector of Santander and, at the same time, the permanent existence of organized armed groups in the department is countered.
These individuals were put into custody of the judicial authority and will have to face charges for aggravated extortion, qualified and aggravated theft, manufacturing, trafficking and carrying of firearms. In addition, one of them has a previous record for the crime of aggravated homicide.
