As part of an operation to protect the inhabitants, the Colombian Navy defused two improvised explosive devices, which had allegedly been planted by the Organized Armed Group ELN, in the Lower Calima region - Valle del Cauca.
Heeding the call of the community, units of the Navy Infantry Brigade No.2, found two improvised explosive devices of the anti-personnel mine type, planted on the bank of the Calima River, which endangered the life and good physical condition of the inhabitants. In this sector, in addition, the gang had some flags with the letters ELN, generating anxiety in the community, which were removed by the military personnel.
An expert team of the Anti-Explosive and Demining Group No.2 of the Colombian Navy carried out the controlled destruction of the explosive devices.
The Naval Institution rejects the use of anti-personnel mines, which indiscriminately strike the Military Forces and the inhabitants, violating the norms of Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law.
