With a mural in honor of the roots, animals and ecological zones of the Píjao people, the National Army celebrated the International Day of Ecological and Environmental Organizations. These organizations work in Tolima for the protection and conservation of the environment.
This work of art was led by the Support Command of Comprehensive Action and Development with its Support Battalion of Comprehensive Action and Development No. 5 and the program “Fe en Colombia,” together with the Rural Development Secretariat of the Chaparral municipal council.
"We made this mural so that the community of Chaparral becomes aware of the importance of the natural resources we have in our municipality," said José Nelson Garzón Flórez, rural development secretary of Chaparral.
He explained that it is a tribute to the roots of the Píjao people, to the páramo of Las Hermosas, which is the habitat to Oso de Anteojos, in danger of extinction, and the Guácharo, a bird that lives in the tuluní caves.
For her part, Aleksa Álvarez, social worker of the “Fe en Colombia” program, said that it is important to work in favor of the nature, because that is how we build spaces of respect and peace.
