In recent decades this military unit has been fundamental in consolidating security and progress in the centre of the country.
On 16 November 1982 by order No.00017 the Fifth Division was restructured, and officially created the Thirteen Brigade of the National Army, a unit that has conducted various military operations of great impact and contributes on to the construction of peace in Colombia, including the operations Libertad I and II, designed to neutralize and dismantle the criminal operations of the Farc in the department of Cundinamarca.
In 2016, in compliance with the military strategic plan for stabilization and consolidation Victoria, in a joint work with other military and civilian authorities, the Thirteen Brigade participated in a major operation that led to the dismantling of the Bronx sector in Bogot谩, a place that had become a source of crime and perhaps one of the largest drug sales point in the country. Similarly, in the Bicentenary Campaign Plan Heroes de la Libertad, through Operation San Roque and Operation Artemisa it was possible to respond to the needs of communities in the midst of the pandemic and work for environmental protection, respectively.
Today the Thirteen Brigade is more strengthened and committed than ever in its mission to protect the people of Bogot谩 and Cundinamarca, and will continue to add decades to strengthen progress in its area of responsibility.
In the framework of the commemoration of the 39 years, a Eucharist ceremony, a wreath laying ceremony and a solemn military ceremony took place presided over by Brigadier General David Leonardo G贸mez Pulido, commander of the Thirteen Brigade, which was attended by General Reinaldo Castellanos Trujillo, former commander of the National Army, some former commanders of the Brigade and the secretary of government of Cundinamarca.
