In the course of an operation carried out by Colombian Navy troops in coordination with the National Police and the Attorney General's Office, 15 individuals were arrested, allegedly members of the Manuel Jos茅 Gait谩n substructure of the Organized Armed Group, GAO, Clan del Golfo, in the department of Sucre.
Thirteen arrests were made in compliance with court orders in the course of eight search procedures in the municipalities of San Onofre, San Antonio de Palmito, Toluviejo and Sincelejo. It was in the same way possible to arrest two individuals in flagrante delicto for carrying illegal weapons in the Gulf of Morrosquillo and the other five individuals received notifications in the prison.
Among those arrested are four gang ringleaders known as Felipe, Patricio, El 脩ato, and Arteaga, as well as Luis, the financial chief of the criminal organization in this area of the country.
These men would be responsible for ordering the collection of money from extortions against merchants, farmers, ranchers and contractors in various municipalities of the department of Sucre and for ordering selective homicides against merchants and members of other criminal groups for control of drug trafficking, weapons and collection of extorted money.
Those arrested and the notified in penitentiary centers will be charged with the crime of association to commit aggravated crimes for the purpose of extortion and homicide, troops found a fragmentation grenade, a revolver, eight cell phones and two motorcycles.
The operation carried out by the Military Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group) Sucre, the Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group) of the National Police in support of the Battalions of Navy Infantry No.13 and 14 respectively, continues to hit this illegal organization.
