Within the framework of Operation Perseo, Colombian National Army not only combats criminal activities in El Plateado, Argelia, but in the same way promotes productive projects to promote legal and sustainable activities in the region.
Operation Perseo, which involves the deployment of 1,400 members of the Military Forces, aircraft and artillery, aims to regain control in Argelia, Cauca, and free the inhabitants of the influence of armed groups. However, the Army's intervention goes beyond military operations; through the Cauca Specific Command, significant efforts have been made to eradicate illegal activities and support the communities of the Micay Canyon.
As part of this strategy, a high-capacity nursery called Sembrando Paz has been launched, planted at the José Hilario López base, Popayán, with the aim of producing one million coffee beans. It is hoped that this project will provide the peasants of the Micay Canyon a viable economic alternative to replace illicit plantations, thus contributing to their well-being and a safer and more stable environment.
In addition, this initiative symbolizes the hope of rebuilding the social and economic fabric of the region. With the transition from illegal activities to legality, it is hoped that farmers will find coffee planting a lasting and profitable option. The production of one million chapolas (coffee plants) in an area of 350 square meters, supported by soldiers in the planting process to germination. In the same way, this activity promotes ecological sustainability in the region. This initiative will in the same way reach other areas of the southwest of the country, where positive results in the substitution of illicit plantations are anticipated.
With projects like this, Colombian National Army demonstrates that its mission transcends military challenges, contributing to the construction of peace and economic, social and environmental development in the department of Cauca.
