In a demining operation the National Army allowed 12 more municipalities to be free of anti-personnel mines. These municipalities are: Liborina, Maceo, Puerto Berrio, San Jer贸nimo and Santa Rosa de Osos, in Antioquia; San Alberto, in Cesar; El Calvario, in Meta; California and Puerto Wilches, in Santander; Guaranda and Majagual, in Sucre; and Ibagu茅, in Tolima.
Despite COVID-19, soldiers of the Engineers of Humanitarian Demining Brigade No.1 do not stop their mission against anti-personnel mines and guarantee the development of 153 humanitarian demining operations
This is how this time soldiers demined 12 municipalities that reported presence of explosive devices.
The declaration about free mines territories in the municipalities of Liborina, Maceo, Puerto Berr铆o, San Jer贸nimo and Santa Rosa de Osos, in Antioquia; San Alberto, in Cesar; El Calvario in Meta; California and Puerto Wilches, in Santander; Guaranda and Majagual, in Sucre; Ibagu茅, in Tolima, comes after an arduous work of Non-Technical Studies where local and municipal authorities and inhabitants played a fundamental role in providing information about the areas that had some type of affectation
In the operation carried out in these municipalities, which have recorded 20 victims of anti-personnel mines: 11 civilians and 9 members of the Public Force, 115 events were cancelled because of the presence of anti-personnel mines, and it was possible to establish that 124,364 square metres were mined. Two explosive devices were destroyed.
Across the free mines territories, more than 152,000 inhabitants have been benefited and 1,338 requests for land restitution have been submitted to the competent institutions.
