The men of the Colombian National Army are committed to the recovery of the environment, for this reason in Tibu, Norte de Santander, seedlings of Móncoro were taken to the nursery of the military base for care and maintenance.
The National Army and its program Fe in Colombia, have recovered about 435 seedlings of Móncoro (Cordia Gerascanthus), which are born in a large area of the military base Tibu, because the mother tree is shaken by the natural air, spreading its seeds.
Second Sergeant Victor Manuel Romero Ruiz, Environmental Manager of the battalion of Engineers no. 30, said "the Tree of Móncoro spreads its seeds in the ground, they are born near the mother tree in order to be protected, these seedlings are collected and taken to our nursery, a nursery that was built in coordination with the team of “Faith in Colombia” of the National Army and in unison with two of his men he says: in the battalion of Engineers No.30 we are custodians of the environment.”
The Engineers Battalion.30 continuously conducts this operation with other types of trees native to the municipality of Tibú, such as: Cañahuate (Tabebuia Roseo-Alba), Totumo or Jicaro (Crescentia Cujete) and Guazimo (Guazuma Ulmifolia), which are found in different places of the base, with the main objective of not losing the future trees. After the rescue, the seedlings are transferred for sowing in bags and their respective Care, maintenance and follow-up, in the Robayo Guzmán Hector Rolando Nursery, which was built with “Faith in Colombia” in 2019.
In the future, these trees will be used to make the nursery self-sustainable and to coordinate with the different institutions and the community, environmental activities to beautify the areas of the municipality.
