In the framework of the frontal fight against drug trafficking, the Colombian Navy, in a coordinated operation with units of Antinarcotics Control of ports and Airports of the National Police, managed to find 11.2 kilograms of marijuana that were being transported aboard the boat Ms Madison, in events that occurred in the waters of San Andrés island.
The operation was carried out by a Rapid Reaction Unit of the Coast Guard Station, who detected the suspicious ship at sea, which apparently covered the Providencia-San Andrés route. Once in the area, initial checks were carried out on the Colombian boat, manned by six people of the same nationality.
Given the suspicion of the cargo being transported, the boat and its occupants were taken to the Port Society Dock, where the detailed inspection of the boat led to the discovery of four boxes that contained illegal fishing inside and in the same way camouflaged 17 rectangular packages of a substance that left positive result for marijuana.
The drug was put into custody of the National Police, while the illegal fishing (112 kilograms of fishing resources) including the Pala Sanail, an animal that is currently prohibited to be taken and which is part of the traditional and cultural identity of the island. The fishery was handed over to officials of the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries of the department.
With these sustained operations, the Security forces ratifies the frontal fight against all forms of crime that seek to make an illegal use of national air, maritime and land jurisdictional spaces, while the continuous patrols of the authorities contribute to the security of the region in support of local and national plans against the problem of drug trafficking.
