The Colombian Navy, through the Bolívar Military Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group), foiled a new case of extortion in the form of false service in the municipality of Santa Catalina, rescuing a man from whom the alleged criminals were demanding a large sum of money to set him free.
The facts took place when the victim, who works as an electrician in a company in the region, received a call in which a work offer was provided in a rural area of the municipality of Santa Catalina, approximately 44 kilometers northeast of Cartagena, where he had to travel to reach provide his service.
Once the victim arrived at the place, the alleged employers said via cell phone that he should go to a specific point. A few minutes later he received a new call in which an alleged ringleader of the Organized Armed Group, GAO, Clan del Golfo forced him, with threats and deceptions, to give him control of his instant messaging apps, through which the individual contacted the company and relatives of the victim and began demanding money in exchange for his release, arguing that the person had entered the territory of the criminal organization without authorization.
The victim's relatives immediately informed the authorities, which led to quickly determining the situation in which the victim was and launching the operation that led to his rescue and subsequent reunion with his loved ones.
