As part of the commitment to the wellbeing of civilians, the components of the National Army, Colombian Navy and Colombian Air Force, attached to the specific command of San Andrés and Providencia, supported the government authorities of San Andrés in the cleanup and removal of debris, in the sectors of the island damaged by the transit of Hurricane Eta over the waters of the Caribbean Sea.
The transit of this natural phenomenon generated heavy winds and waves on the Island which caused the downing of dozens of trees and floods in houses and commercial establishments.
After this situation, the Military Forces in a joint operation and inter-agency with the Colombian Civil Defence, the Official Firemen, the departmental government and the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management -UNGRD - triggered protocols of contingency, to jointly support the people in this situation.
This humanitarian operation was conducted in different points of San Andrés such as the barrio Sarie Bay, the Circunvalar Avenue, areas adjacent to the Morgan's Cave and the Cove zone, were some of the sectors received the assistance by the military personnel and other public officials taking the Unified action of the State to the Island, through this coordinated effort that seeks to promote the comprehensive well-being of the island community and raizal people.
With this type of support to face natural disasters, the Military reiterated that they will continue to work together with State agencies and non-governmental organizations for the vulnerable communities in the department Archipelago, in order to be bearers of hope and continue in the task of safeguarding and protecting the lives of its inhabitants.
