With the purpose of training techniques, tactics and procedures in flight, the military exercise Relámpago IX-24 was carried out, in which the Colombian aircraft KFIR, ECN-235, KC-767, C-295 special operations and UH-60 helicopter participated, by the United States aircraft type FA-18, EA-18 and F-35, and the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS George Washington that arrived in Colombian Pacific waters near Buenaventura, Valle del Cauca, so that foreign air superiority aircraft could take off of there and carry out the air combat exercises with Colombia within the framework of the tenth operation Southern Seas.
This is an exercise that seeks to train the pilots of the Institution in air and space operations for air dominance and achieve air superiority with a focus on national defense in which, for this ninth occasion the Colombian Aerospace Force, the Colombian Navy and the United States Navy participated, who deployed tactical units over the Pacific Ocean to conduct air defense exercises and naval tactics with combined operations under NATO standards.
For several days, missions of defensive and offensive air counter power, in-flight refueling, command and control, electronic protection, space operations were conducted with the participation of the SpOC Space Operations Center, at the Marco Fidel Suárez Military Aviation School, and search and rescue procedures, in order to achieve and maintain air superiority in the area of operations.
Relámpago included a series of trainings in a highly dynamic and realistic environment, leading the participating forces to perfect their military operation skills and procedures in extremely complex situations, as well as to strengthen the protocols in the maintenance issues that will be put into practice in international exercises and during the daily preparation of the Institution's aircraft to work to raise the security and safety of military operations in flight having in mind the X-2025 Relámpago exercise.
With this exercise can be seen once again that the pilots and crew members of the Colombian Aerospace Force are trained to the highest standards to operate along with any force at an international level and continue successfully fulfilling the institutional mission.
