Regarding the military operation carried out in the rural area of the municipality of Calamar, Guaviare, last March 02nd, against the criminal structure whose ringleader is alias Gentil Duarte the Joint Command No.3 informs:
1. The Military Forces in fulfillment of the constitutional mission planned and executed a military operation in the framework of International Humanitarian Law, in immediate vicinity of the river Ajaj煤, in Buenos Aires, municipality of Calamar, department of Guaviare, over a camp area where terrorist operations were being planned by members of the structure under the command of alias Gentil Duarte, who commits crimes for over 30 years, and currently is wanted by multiple orders of arrest for the crime of recruitment of minors, drug trafficking, terrorism, kidnapping, rebellion, destruction of the environment; he is also wanted by INTERPOL.
2. In this military operation, to date, the following results have been obtained: 12 deaths during military operations; the identity, sex and age will be established by the authorities. At the site there were also three arrests and the recovery of two minors, who are already in the custody of the Colombian Institute of Family Welfare in San Jos茅 del Guaviare. Seven rifles, two 7.62 calibre machineguns, one submachine gun, one multiple grenade launcher, one carbine, eight short firearms, 43 magazines, 2,225 cartridges of various calibers, three sights, 60 field equipment, 15 uniforms for the exclusive use of the Military Forces, 10 multipurpose vests and 12 portable computers have in the same way been found.
3. It is important to emphasize that the members of the armed structure were directly participating in the hostilities in accordance with the third paragraph, article 13 of Protocol II to the Geneva Convention.
4. Once the ground troops secured the place of the events, the urgent acts were carried out by the technical investigation Corps of the Attorney General's Office.
5. We again make public denunciation of the forced recruitment of minors and we will denounce the actions that have been carried out by the criminal structure of Alias Gentil Duarte, who with this conduct violates international humanitarian law.
6. The military forces continue with the mission of neutralizing the terrorist plans of these organized armed groups that finance from drug trafficking, destroy biodiversity and Natural Resources, and attack the life, dignity, honor and property of Colombians.
7. Military operations in the Department of Guaviare are permanent, in order to neutralize all the factors of instability that adversely hit the tranquility and security of the inhabitants of this region of the country.
