Regarding the recent events reported in the rural area of the municipality of Jamundí, Valle del Cauca, the Third Brigade of the National Army reports:
1. The soldiers of the National Army, in a coordinated, joint and inter-agency work with the Navy, the Air Force, the Police and the Prosecutor's office, and in military control operations in the rural area of Jamundí, Valle del Cauca, there are currently three early warnings issued by the office of the Ombudsman: 037-2018, 06 of 2019 and 015 of 2020, by which led to the military operation to work for increasing the security of the inhabitants of the region.
2. Members of the community, through an attempted assault, aggressively attacked on the Military Forces against their good physical condition, opposing compliance with the legal procedure that is carried out there (institutional work). In order to prevent any kind of confrontation with the inhabitants and safeguard human rights, the units withdraw of the sector.
3. This is not the first time that the operations of the authorities have been obstructed and stopped in that sector, where some people constantly seek to prevent the legal operations of institutions.
People are urged not to obstruct military operations or assault the members of the Military Forces, as this can constitute criminal offences, such as those foreseen in articles 226, 429 and 469 of the Colombian Criminal Code.
4. In the same way, a call is made to the municipal and departmental authorities, so that from their roles and functions they support the legal operations against these events of violent acts by the civilians, that in compliance with the constitutional principle of harmonious collaboration among the institutions.
5. This Command will continue to use all resources for the well-being, tranquility and security of this prosperous region of the country, with respect for human rights and strict compliance with the provisions of international humanitarian law.
