With the purpose of preserving one of the most emblematic specimens of our country, the Colombian Aerospace Force, in a coordinated work with the Conservation Park, Metropolitan Area and Jaime Duque Park, carried out the transfer of an adult male condor, from Medell铆n to Brise帽o, Cundinamarca.
A UH-60 helicopter of the Air Combat Command N.5 arrived at the Olaya Herrera Airport, which serves the capital city of Antioquia, to transfer the specimen, with all the security measures, to the Wakat谩 Bioparque Natural Reserve of the Jaime Duque Park Foundation, as part of a preservation project of this specimen, which is listed as critically endangered. Only in the country, according to the most recent census conducted in 2021, there were about 63 individuals living.
In order to carry out the mission, which had a route of 228 kilometers, the permanent accompaniment of two professionals in biology and veterinary medicine of the Conservation Park was important, who supervised the health status and wellbeing conditions of the bird, before, during and after its arrival at the Reserve.
Before its aerial transfer, the condor, of the specimen Vultur gryphus, passed by different examinations, where it was determined that it was in favorable conditions for the integration of a reproduction program for the conservation of the Condor.
The Aerospace Institution will continue to work to contribute to the protection and preservation of wildlife and the environment of our country.
