Three minors, a nursing mother and seven other people, who were lost in the nearby hills of the municipality of Carmen de Apicalá, were successfully rescued by a helicopter of the Colombian Aerospace Force, in an operation coordinated with the National Personnel Recovery Center (CENRP) and the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management.
The emergency occurred during a pilgrimage to the Virgen del Carmen, from El Espinal to Cerro de Las Mercedes, between the municipalities of Carmen de Apicalá and Suárez, when the group lost their way. At approximately three o'clock in the afternoon, the crews of the Huey II helicopter of the Air Combat Command No.4 began the complex rescue efforts in rural areas.
In two successive flights, the evacuation of the nine people was possible, highlighting the rapid and effective operation of the Nº4 Air Combat Command, the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management and the CENRP. These institutions responded immediately to the community's call, conducting reconnaissance overflights over the area to facilitate the precise finding of the missing group and ensure coordination with the rescue teams on the ground.
