More than 50 men make up this crew led by ship Captain Nelson Andrés Monsalve Agudelo, Commander of the afloat Unit, who will have the honorable responsibility of transporting humanitarian aid donated by the public and private sectors, as well as national institutions such as the National Risk and Disaster Management Unit-UNGRD - and the Colombian Red Cross, who have coordinated efforts to collect aid for San Andrés and Providencia.
In this way, during this afternoon and early morning, the maneuvers of preparation and shipment of elements will be carried out including food baskets, non-perishable food, a ton of water in different presentations, Eternit roof tiles, toilet tools, and in this opportunity more than 20 kilos of pet food.
This chain of human and logistical support is made up of business sectors that unite to this national cause in support of the compatriots of the department island.
On Monday, this important afloat unit of the Colombian Navy is expected, within its extensive journey through the seas, to support the work to counter piracy at sea during Operation Atalanta and Ocean Shield in the Horn of Africa, contributing to the legal use of maritime communication ways in the African countries.
The Patrol ARC 7 de Agosto is one of the four larger units of the Navy of Colombia that are deployed in the colombian Caribbean, along with the ARC Independiente, the ARC Antioquia and ARC Golfo de Urabá, which are providing humanitarian assistance to residents hit by the emergency and contribute to the recovery of the department Archipelago.
