Through a successful operation to counter environmental crimes in the southwest of the country, in joint operations of the National Army, the Colombian Air Force in coordination with the Attorney General's Office, it was possible to find five illegal mining sites in the rural area of the municipality of Magüi Payán, in Nariño.
At the site, five excavators-type machines were neutralized under controlled conditions, valued at more than 2 billion pesos, thus damaging the logistical and financial capacity, interrupting the transit of more than one billion pesos per month, used for the activity of the residual Organized Armed Group, GAO-r, Oliver Sinisterra.
The decisive operation of the authorities weakens the groups that exercise this modality of mining excavation and in turn finance other factors of instability; in addition, it is possible to reduce the environmental impact in 8 hectares that will take by 10 and 30 years to recover.
