Putumayo. In a joint operation conducted by the National Navy, the National Army and the Colombian Air Force, three persons were captured, identified as contaminating the waters of the Caquetá River, nine dredges used for the illegal extraction of minerals and war material were destroyed.
In the joint operation carried outed, in the area of Patio Bonito, in the village of Puerto Santander on the Caquetá River, in coordination with personnel of the National Police and personnel of the Bogota District Prosecutor's Office, it was possible to capture two men and one women, who were prosecuted for the crimes of illegal exploitation of mineral deposits, damage to natural resources and conspiracy to commit a crime.
At the time of inspecting the floating structures, four shotguns, a revolver, 12 cartridges of different calibers and 500 grams of marijuana troops found. The individuals and the material found were put into custody to the authority.
The environmental impact obtained with this finding is significant, taking into account that the mercury that the dredgers leave on the waters of the rivers, produces a direct hitation to the environment and the health of the inhabitants and indigenous communities of the departments of Caquetá and Amazonas , who feed and sustain part of the economic activities in the waters of the rivers of the South of the country.
