Caldas. In humanitarian demining works carried out in the municipality of Cristalina, in the municipality of Pensilvania, in the department of Caldas, soldiers of the Battalion of Humanitarian Demining Engineers No. 3, detected an antipersonnel mine on the main road that connects that area with the Santa Teresa village.
The explosive device that was destroyed under controlled conditions by the mine clearance specialists was waterproofed in a glass container to prevent its deterioration. It put at risk the lives of the minors and their families who travel daily by that route, being the main route to go to the school and in the same way to export and market the products of the sector.
Thanks to the work done in that municipality, six antipersonnel mines have been destroyed.
On this occasion, about ten families were benefited with the operation of the mine clearance specialists, whose mission is to free lands suspected of contamination by explosive devices.
