San Andrés Isla. The National Navy in a joint and inter-institutional work with the National Army, the Colombian Air Force, the National Association of Industrialists - ANDI and the Rueda Verde Corporation, carried out the second solid waste disposal of this year on board the ship ARC "Roncador".
As part of the environmental commitment in this insular region, a ton of electronic waste was evacuated. Computers, screens and televisions, among others, require special handling for their final disposal, because otherwise they release toxic components that cause serious consequences to the people who manipulate them and the environment.
Once the waste is selected in the sector called " Punto Verde ", where tons of trash are placed, the Military Forces and the participating Institutions are in charge of boarding the tires in trucks that move towards the Sociedad Portuaria, where the crew of the ship ARC "Roncador" is responsible for the shipment and accommodation of the waste, in such a way that it does not represent an risk during its displacement to Cartagena de Indias.
It is worth mentioning that this activity has been carried out for three years through the maritime units of the National Navy who transport to evacuate more than 15.5 tons of garbage and 6000 tires during 2017. In the last month 1,757 tires were evacuated on board the ship ARC "San Andrés". Likewise, the Marine Infantrymen of the Naval Military Police No. 11 have carried out five underwater cleanups with the Foundation Help 2 Oceans, as well as in the coastal areas, contributing to the initial process of waste collection, reducing the environmental impact on the territory.
The San Andrés y Providencia Specific Command plans to exceed the goal of eight waste extractions executed during 2017, reaffirming its commitment and interest to continue contributing to the care of the island through continuous inter-institutional work.
