Through peasant markets, economic development is promoted in the rural communities of the Colombian Caribbean, helping peasants to sell their harvest and promoting sustainable consumption practices.
The Colombian Navy, in a coordinated work with public and private organizations, carried out a peasant market that benefited 68 people and 17 agricultural and artisan enterprises of the Caribbean region, in which their products were marketed.
This activity took place in the Bocagrande neighborhood of Cartagena, where it was possible to successfully sell more than 18 million pesos in agricultural products, including fruits, grains, processed, vegetables, and typical handicrafts of the Caribbean region.
Troops of the Navy Infantry Battalion No.13 were in charge of transporting the fresh and as plantations of the peasants of the Montes de María subregion to Cartagena, making their logistical and human resources available to contribute to the economic development of the region.
The implementation of these operations promotes sustainable commerce through direct purchase without intermediaries, bringing farm products closer to their final consumer, reducing costs and optimizing the logistics process of transport.
This initiative was made possible thanks to the coordination of resources of the Colombian Navy with the District Mayor's Office of Cartagena, the Center for Transfer, Innovation and Entrepreneurship of the University of Cartagena, the ISA Coastal Route Consortium and the Government of Bolívar.
