173 fruit and timber trees were planted on the Island of Manzanillo, in Cartagena, by a group of High School and Aspiring navy people of the Naval Cadet School Almirante Padilla - ENAP.
Sectors surrounding the Marina Obregón, the Reyes Avenue, the Classrooms Building, the Stella Maris chapel and Punta Recluta now have more trees that will contribute to improving air quality and reducing the greenhouse effect.
“More than a planting activity, we are carrying out an awareness-raising activity with our Aspiring young navy people. Through this tree, they can see their own growth reflected by receiving the right tutoring at the Naval Academy. This work represents not only the care and conservation of the environment, but in the same way the care and conservation of life,” said Lieutenant Natalia Caicedo, Environmental Officer of the Naval Cadet School Almirante Padilla.
This activity was led by the Environmental Office of the Maritime University and had the support and accompaniment of the Environmental Public Establishment of Cartagena, an organization that donated the trees of the specimens Guayacán Amarillo, Mangle de Zaragoza, Oití and uvita de playa, leading work to conduct an adequate reforestation plan in the unit.
For the Aspirant Andrés Mena Vargas, this activity represents an honor to him. “I'll take care of the tree for as long as I'm here. When I'm a Lieutenant I hope I can come and find it still here.”
The Naval Cadet School Almirante Padilla, through its Environmental Office, promotes this reforestation campaign as part of the commitment to environmental protection and promotion of environmental education for our academic people.
