The Naval Academy of Cadets "Almirante Padilla", receives important recognition to form Category A Hydrographs, distinction granted by the International Hydrographic Organization FIG / IHO / ICA International Board on Standards of Competence for Hydrographic Surveyors and Nautical Cartographers (IBSC). From now on, Colombia is one of the 3 countries of Latin America (with Chile and Brazil) that hold this category.
"The International Hydrographic Organization through the office of competence standards for hydrographers and cartographers, has found that our program complies with international standards. With this, Colombia intends to be a medium power of regional projection, where every day the products of our cartography are much better and the information we have from our seabed, is more reliable and more accurate. We are entering the elite of the Hydrography," said Frigate Captain Jes煤s Zambrano Pinz贸n.
This recognition was given last April of this year. For 11 days a Colombian delegation consisting of Captain Hernando Garc铆a G贸mez of the Grucog - DIMAR and Frigate Captain Jes煤s Zambrano Pinz贸n, from the Faculty of Oceanography of the Naval Academy of Cadets "Almirante Padilla", participated in the forty-first meeting of the Standards Committee for the Training of Nautical Hydrographers and Cartographers (ISBC41) in the city of Bandung, in the Republic of Indonesia.
The purpose of this meeting was to present to a jury of experts of the highest level in the world, the training programs of Hydrographers held by the Naval Academy of Cadets "Almirante Padilla" and the Naval School of Sub-Officers ARC Barranquilla. In this presentation to the committee, the Training Program of Class A and Class B Hydrographs of the Naval Training Schools were introduced.
"There are two types of hydrographs: there is the Class B that focuses on the technical or operational part, this is the hydrographer that goes out with the equipment to collect data; and there is the Class A, which deepens beyond the technical issues, he must know the context of the study area and get related to other types of sciences such as: Oceanography, Meteorology, Geodesy and Cartography, where more variables that help to have an answer to a hydrographic problems with greater veracity and with more investigation", said Camilo Andr茅s Platz Marroqu铆n, Professor of the Faculty of Physical Oceanography of the Naval School.
"This recognition is very important for the country, since it shows to the world, the level of education that in terms of Marine Sciences and particularly Hydrography, has been achieved by the National Navy, because Hydrography is national sovereignty", concluded the Frigate Captain Jes煤s Zambrano Pinz贸n.
