The Almirante Padilla Naval Cadet School, within the framework of its Comprehensive Solid Waste Management Plan, carries out different activities for the use of the waste that results of the daily activity both in the military district of Manzanillo, and in the Naval School.
One of them is the separation in the source and the joint work that is carried out with the company Recycled Save Your World S. A. S. to give continuity to the chain of use, thus contributing to the generation of employment and preventing environmental pollution.
This sustained work, which has been led by the Planning Office, through the Environment Division, began in 2020 and leads to collect about seven tons of solid waste usable for reuse or transformation.
The process begins inside the unit, with separation at the source, in storage bins that have been identified and labeled for waste disposal. Three times a week, the environmental recovery staff makes a tour of the facilities, verifying and selecting the material, which is then taken to a warehouse for use.
On 01 March, World Waste Picker's Day, the Naval Cadet School highlighted the importance of the role of environmental recyclers in society. “It is a job that not many people take the risk of doing, but they are people who have seen the need and are generating new jobs alternatives,” said Lieutenant Natalia Caicedo, Environmental Officer at the Naval Cadet School.
The Almirante Padilla Naval Cadet School reaffirms its commitment to environmental conservation. For this reason, it carries out operations and campaigns for the management of solid waste, as well as for the conservation of coastal ecosystems, generating environmental awareness not only in the young people who form as naval leaders as custodians of the environment, but in inhabitants of the region.
