Guainía. In recent hours, units of the National Navy rescued alive a minor, who had been dragged by the heavy currents of the Inírida River, in the afternoon of Wednesday, when he was chatting on a beach with family and friends, near the urban area of the municipality of Inírida, in the department of Guainía.
The call for help of the relatives of the 17-year-old boy immediately alerted the units of the Marine Infantry Battalion No. 50, who deployed a search and rescue operation on the Inírida River, with the support of men of the Civil Defense, the Colombian Red Cross and the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management.
The vocation of service, training and commitment to safeguard human life in the rivers of the National Navy, led to the rescue with life of the child, who was found clinging to the roots of a tree.
The child received first aid from nurses of the Naval Institution and Colombian Civil Defense personnel. Later, he was taken to the Manuel Elkin Patarroyo municipal hospital in Inírida, where he is stable, receiving specialized medical assistance.
The parents of the minor, thanked with tears in their eyes, the timely and determined operation carried out by the crew of the National Navy and the relief agencies, which led the troops to rescue his son alive.
