Colombian Navy units attached to the Pacific Naval Force, during a search and rescue operation, saved the lives of nine people, including a minor, who shipwrecked on a boat that plunged in the San Juan River in the department of Choc贸.
The overturning of the boat, apparently was caused by a bad turning maneuver conducted by the pilot, which added to the effect created by the waves, caused the accident shipwrecked in the river.
Immediately, units of the Navy Infantry Battalion No.24 that were in the sector, reacted to attend the emergency, rescue the personnel and recover the boat. The rescued was treated by military personnel, who provided first aid and medical assistance.
This year, the Pacific Naval Force has managed to safeguard life in seas and rivers of 230 people, thereby reaffirming its commitment to continue preserving life at sea. Similarly, it invites extreme security measures and invites people to fully comply with all the requirements and procedures established by the Colombian Maritime Authority.
