These men, presumably, were collecting money from merchants and ranchers by extortions of money, on behalf of the residual organized armed group Jorge Briceño Suarez in different sectors of the municipalities of Granada, Lejanías, Mesetas and San Juan de Arama, Meta. It is being investigated whether these same individuals would be involved in the extortion against a prosecutor in the Ariari region.
In a house in the Laureano neighborhood in the city of Cali, Valle del Cauca, troops of the Military Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group) Ariari in an inter-institutional work with the CTI (Technical Investigations Corps) of the Attorney General's Office, arrested with a court order two men allegedly members of the Gao-r (finance group) Jorge Briceño Suarez, who committed crimes in the Ariari region.
According to the research carried out by the authorities, those arrested were in charge of receiving the cash from extortion carried out by alias Mechas, an individual arrested in march of 2021 by the troops of the Seventh Brigade, in a military operation coordinated with the Air Force and the Police, when two subcontractors of the Electrificadora del Meta, in a rural area of the municipality of Mesetas had been kidnapped.
After several months of military intelligence and judicial investigative work, the soldiers and officials of the CTI (Technical Investigations Corps) find these two individuals, who had moved to the city of Cali to evade the authorities, after the arrest alias Mechas, ringleader, kidnapper and extortionist who could be linking more members of this criminal structure.
The military operation was carried out within the framework of the Bicentenary campaign Plan Héroes de la Libertad, through the Operation Pedro Pascasio Martínez, aimed at combating extortion, kidnapping, smuggling and the illegal exploitation of mining sites.
The 40 and 67-year-old apprehended were given to the authorities for the crimes of extortion with circumstances of aggravation.
