In development of the Bicentenary Plan of Operations, "Heroes of Freedom" was rescued in the hamlet Caracolí, of San Juan del Cesar (La Guajira), the teacher Bienvenido Mendoza Oñate, who would have been abducted by three men identified as members of the Organized Armed Group Eln.
The rescue, carried out thanks to the pressure of the troops of the National Army, the Military Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group) and the coordinated work with the National Police, was carried out in the vicinity of the village Caracolí, in the same area where he was abducted, Saturday morning June 15.
His captors, noticing the presence of the Army, fled the place, leaving the 65-year-old teacher a few meters close to where the troops were searching.
The opportune notification by the family of the kidnapping led to the rapid reaction of the troops of the Artillery Battalion of Campaign nº.1 Santa Bárbara and the Military Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group) of La Guajira of the Tenth Brigade of the First Division of the National Army, who made the Lock plan on all the roads of the department.
