Due to the heavy rainfall in recent days, there have been floods, mass terrain slides and overflows that have hit 27 of the 32 Colombian departments.
On November 10, President Gustavo Petro declared a disaster situation throughout the country, which is why Colombian National Army sent 650 soldiers of the Engineer Brigade for Disaster Care and Prevention to face emergencies that arise throughout the national territory.
Currently, two strategically located battalions are in preparation waiting for the activation by the National Risk Management Unit, one is in Malambo, Atlántico, which is ready to provide support in 13 departments of the northern zone and another in the Military Fort of Tolemaida to provide support in the central, eastern and southern areas of the country. This distribution works by increasing the rapid deployment, providing optimal response times for the comprehensive care of the disturbed inhabitants.
The rescue soldiers have the knowledge, training and equipment necessary to carry out specialized response interventions in search and rescue, general engineering work, adaptation of temporary shelters, distribution of humanitarian aid, supply of drinking water, among others.
In addition, we have zodiac boats, motor pumps, electric generators, igloos for temporary accommodation, drones for terrain reconnaissance, chainsaws, communications equipment and all kinds of tools that work on as part of the operations.
Colombian National Army carries out constant monitoring of the climatic and atmospheric conditions that may arise, additionally it has made contact with the different military operations institutions and departmental and municipal Risk Management offices, in order to maintain constant communication and have real-time information on the situations that arise.
Colombian National Army is concentrating its efforts to attend people in this emergency, it is prepared to help the people who have been hit.
