Military intelligence, the Attorney General's office and interdisciplinary research groups participated in the preparation of these documents that show the origin and operations of the AUC during the armed conflict.
Understanding the great importance of contributing to the clarification of the truth about what happened in the context of the internal armed conflict, and responding to the request made by Father Francisco de Roux, president of the Truth Commission, in the previous reports by the National Army, the presentation entitled Genesis: United Self-Defense of Colombia and reflections on the phenomenon of self-defense in the territories in the perspective of the National Army took place.
These materials, which consist of about a thousand pages, are the result of analysis and research carried out by the military intelligence Combat Support Command, the Office of the Attorney General of the nation and the interdisciplinary historical memory groups of the Comprehensive Legal Department of the National Army.
The documents that will be given to the Commission presented a documentary context, and historical evolution of the conformation of the different organized armed groups known as Autodefensas and their armed and criminal structures; they in the same way point out the causes of their emergence, dynamics and impact in the framework of the internal armed conflict in Colombia, between the years 1965-2005.
For these investigations, military intelligence archives, public documents, as well as primary and secondary sources were consulted. These are rigorous investigations, in various temporalities.
Along with these elements, the Truth Commission will receive the report Contributions to country building: a commitment of the National Army, which shows how the Comprehensive Action carried out by the National Army contributed to the well-being of Colombians and to the reduction of the factors generating violence during the armed conflict.
This act will be carried out virtually and will be publicly transmitted through the digital platforms of the Truth Commission. Father Francisco de Roux, president of the group for the clarification of the truth, will be in charge of receiving the investigative products by the National Army.
After this presentation, the institution will continue to actively participate in listening spaces and other environments, in order to contribute to the construction of truth and to make visible thousands of military persons and their families, who were victims of various atrocious acts during the fulfillment of their constitutional duty to protect the nation and citizens.
