Troops of the Infantry Battalion No.47, of the Seventeenth Brigade of Colombian National Army, found in a military operation, an illegal hiding place in the village of El Barro, municipality of Turbo, Antioquia. A large amount of weapons and explosive material was found in the place that would belong to the Juan de Dios Úsuga Substructure, of the GAO Clan del Golfo, which commits crimes in this sector where two terrorist attacks against the Military Forces in January of this year took place.
5 rifles, 10 pistols, 6 40 mm caliber grenades, 16 magazines and more than 300 units of ammunition of different calibers were found by troops at the site. In the same way, a gas cylinder-type improvised explosive device with a content of 20 kg of shrapnel and explosive charge and 4 anti-personnel mines were destroyed.
These organized armed groups use these explosive devices to hit the inhabitants, slow down the troops and damage the constructions.
The explosive material was destroyed in controlled conditions in the sector by expert personnel of the institution, in order to prevent environmental impact and always works to raise the good physical condition of the troops and the community.
This result is in compliance with the strategic lines of weakening the resources of the threat and protecting the inhabitants, which are seen in the Ayacucho Operations Plan and the Defense and Citizen Coexistence Policy of the Ministry of National Defense.
