Soldiers of the Brigade No.31 transported by air acrylic boards donated by the Association of Captains and Indigenous Traditional Authorities of the Pirá Paraná River, which will benefit more than 150 children who receive classes at the school of the Piedra Ñi.
In Piedra Ñi, the Makuna indigenous people live, including more than 600 people recognized as belonging to the group; they according to their worldview, are children of the Water Anaconda, a belief that is transmitted through the legend of the Güio-god.
These land can only be reached by air from Mitú, the municipal seat of the department, as more than 200 kilometers of thick jungle separate them.
“We are the Army and that is why we have all our Resources for the benefit of our indigenous people, in this case, helicopters working at the service of the branch, transported the boards to this distant place,” said Colonel César Baquero, commander of Brigade No.31.
Thanks to this donation by the ACAIPI Association, broken boards and with years of use, were replaced by three-meter acrylic boards that will facilitate teaching to minors. Fuel and necessary toilet supplies were in the same way transported to meet the basic needs of the community. Cargo was transported on board boats to cross the Pirá Paraná River.
