Committed to the environment care, units of the National Army work in coordination with the Regional Autonomous Corporation of Tolima-Cortolima, in order to carry out the environmental campaign "La fe siembra monta帽as".
The Fe en Colombia Program leads this environmental campaign in the municipalities of southern Tolima in order to preserve and protect the wax palm and the parrot orejiamarillo (yellow ears). The events will be held in the framework of the Holy Week during the days 11 and 12 of April in Chaparral, and on April 14 in San Antonio.
In the activities it is expected to distribute more than 2,400 seedlings, so that the entire community is invited to congregate in churches and main squares on the special days to receive their plants for free and prevent the purchase and environmental damage produced at this time because of the cutting of the wax palm.
It is important to highlight that the wax palm is considered as a national symbol that is in danger of extinction and in the same way the Yellow-eared Parrot, which has a close relationship with the palm, because the parrot uses it to feed and make its nests in it; the Yellow-eared is currently one of the most threatened types of parrots.
