Coast Guard units of the Colombian Navy, during operations coordinated with the National Police against drug trafficking, and thanks to information obtained during control and surveillance work on maritime communication lines, detected the contamination of a cargo container at one of the port terminals of Santa Marta - Magdalena.
Once the information was received, a Rapid Reaction Unit – URR, of the Coast Guard Station of Santa Marta, was sent, which together with an anti-narcotics trained dog, conducted the visit procedure at the place where the drug contamination was detected. During the procedure, 25 rectangular packages were found by troops hidden in the cargo container's refrigeration system, similar to those used for trafficking illicit substances, so they were extracted and taken to a safe place.
Judicial Police officers carried out the Approved Preliminary Identification Test – PIPH to the cargo found, which left positive result for 25 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride, illegal merchandise that would cost approximately 840 thousand dollars in the international illegal market and of which more than 60 thousand doses of the narcotic could be marketed. The material found was put into custody of the authority, no arrests were made during the operation.
The Colombian Navy ratifies its commitment in the fight against the transnational crime of drug trafficking and its related crimes, in the same way, invites sea users and the members of the different maritime productive groups to report in a timely manner and to the authorities any action that puts at risk the security of the maritime communication lines of the region.
