Through this finding, the Naval Institution prevented the marketing of more than eight million doses of narcotics on the streets of the world.
The interception of the ship took place after an exhaustive monitoring by sea and air, carried out by the Naval Aviation and Coast Guard of the Colombian Navy.
As part of the frontal fight against the transnational crime of drug trafficking carried out by the Colombian Navy through the Specific Command of San Andrés and Providencia, within the framework of a joint operation with the Colombian Air Force and multinational with the Interagency Joint Task Force of the Southern Command of the United States - JIATFS, more than 3.3 tons of cocaine hydrochloride that were transported aboard a Go Fast type boat, were found by troops. It was sailing at high speed in the northern area of the department of the Archipelago.
Once the alert was received, a Rapid Reaction Unit - URR of the Coast Guard Station of San Andrés was deployed to the area and an aircraft of the Caribbean Naval Air Group, which, after several hours of follow-up by sea and air, successfully intercepted the suspicious ship. During the visit procedure, five individuals were found by troops on board, three Colombians and two Hondurans, as well as 135 sacks with rectangular packages that, by their appearance, resembled narcotic substances.
The individuals, along with the illegal merchandise found, were taken to a secure dock in San Andrés and put into custody of the authorities, where they will have to answer for the alleged crime of trafficking, manufacturing or carrying narcotics, contemplated in article 376 of the Colombian Criminal Code.
Units of the National Police carried out the Approved Preliminary Identification Test - PIPH, which gave a positive result for 3,379 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride. It is estimated that the substance found would be valued in the international illegal market at more than 113 million dollars.
