In 2024, more than 4.6 tons of cocaine hydrochloride have been found in the Archipelago department.
Within the framework of sea surveillance and control operations, the Colombian Navy, with the support of the Colombian Aerospace Force and the Southern Command of the United States – JIAFTS, seized 687 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride, when they were being transported by two Colombians on board a Go Fast type boat, near the island of San Andrés.
The suspicious ship was detected through the control and surveillance means of the Military Forces in this region of the country and immediately, a Rapid Reaction Unit – URR of the Coast Guard Station of San Andrés and an aircraft of the Caribbean Naval Air Group of the Colombian Navy were sent for interception.
Upon detecting the work of the authorities, the individuals on board the boat scraped and threw several sacks into the sea, however, after an intense pursuit, it was possible to intercept the Go Fast type boat. During the inspection of the ship, the crew of the Naval Institution found inside rectangular packages containing hallucinogenic substances. Later, some sacks of those left at sea during the chase were recovered.
The material found, the arrested people and the immobilized ship were taken to the dock of the Coast Guard Station of San Andrés, where units of the Technical Investigation Corps of the Attorney General's Office conducted the Approved Preliminary Identification Test- PIPH, which resulted positive for 687 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride.
It should be noted that with the finding of this substance, valued at more than US$ 23 million on the illegal market, the marketing and consumption of about 1.7 million doses was prevented.
