Units of the Colombian Navy, during maritime Comprehensive control and security operations, carried out the interception of a ship in the department of Nariño, manned by two individuals who were transporting 961 gallons of fuel without the corresponding permits for its transfer.
The result was given when crew members of the Coast Guard Station of Tumaco conducted in the area, found the ship and initiated the maritime interception procedure. During the search and review, the individuals of Colombian nationality did not have the necessary documents for the transportation of the fuel, which is why they were taken to the municipality of Tumaco - Nariño.
In the Coast Guard facilities of Tumaco, the individuals and the fuel were put into custody of the CTI (Technical Investigations Corps) of the Attorney General's Office, for the legalization of the arrest for the alleged crime of fuel smuggling.
In the same way, 30 boxes of tuna of foreign origin were found by troops, containing 1,419 cans, which were put into custody of the National Tax and Customs Directorate – DIAN.
It should be noted that the fuel transported illegally is often used as a precursor for the production of coca paste base, so this finding would represent a direct damage to the logistics and financial chain of the specialized drug trafficking groups that commit crimes in the Nariño Pacific region.
