An aeromedical transfer mission to contribute to the improvement of the health of a Cali’s child is conducted by the Colombian Air Force (FAC), from the ‘Marco Fidel Suárez’ Air Base, in the southwest of the country, to the United States. The 10-year-old Shalom David González Moreno suffered severe burns in 80% of his body due to an accident while conducting a school experiment, handling a chemical element.
After staying several months in an intensive care unit at the University Hospital of Valle, the child was admitted to a specialized medical center in the United States, therefore, the family of the minor went to the Colombian Air Force and its National Recovery Center of personnel (CNRP), to carry out the transfer in an air ambulance.
A King-350 aircraft of the Air Transport Command (CATAM) of the FAC, was prepared to carry out this important mission, the crew, made of pilot, co-pilot, flight technician and medical personnel, arrived at the 'Marco Fidel Suárez Air Base ', in the city of Cali, to transfer the child to the Shriners For Children Hospital, a medical center specialized in burns care.
The Air Force organized a flight plan, which included a technical stopover in San Pedro de Sula (Honduras), to later take off to Galveston (Texas). During eight hours of flight, he was constantly monitored by the crew.
The Air Combat Command No.7 (CACOM - 7) and the Military Aviation School (EMAVI) opened their doors for partners and family to accompany the child on their way out. This strategic base of the nation, where precisely where this mission it took off.
