At the end of the ceremony of designation as Minister of Defense, Diego Molano announced to the President of the Republic, Iván Duque, that from the Ministry of Defense he will focus his actions on four main fronts: continue the fight against drug trafficking, hit the financial sources of this crime, continue with the eradication of illicit plantations and move forward the dismantling of Organized Armed Groups and FARC new groups.
"Dismantling these organizations is the best mechanism and way to prevent murders of social leaders. That is why, President, alias Otoniel, alias Marquez, alias Santrich, alias Iván Mordisco and alias Gabino must know that we are going to look for them by sea, air and land. Our Military Forces and Police will not rest until we free the Colombians in those regions from that attacks”, said Minister Molano.
He stated that he will work shoulder to shoulder with local and regional authorities to ensure the security of all Colombians, especially in the most hit areas by drug trafficking, microtrafficking and the criminal operations of Organized Armed Groups.
"Together with the National Police and the Mayors, we will fight every battle to seize the drug, to destroy the distribution places of it and to restore security in the neighbors and communities of Colombian cities”, claimed the Minister.
Another priority of the new minister will be the protection of the environment, biodiversity and natural resources as strategic assets of the nation. That is why he promised to continue the development of the Operation Artemisa to stop deforestation, which allows the expansion of illicit plantations that, in the same way, destroys forests, rivers and water sources in strategic areas of the national geography.
Regarding the fight against crime, Molano announced: “we will strengthen the resources of our soldiers and police men to have greater presence to protect Colombians. We will strengthen technology and cybersecurity to counter the threats that affect our nation. We will intensify human rights and international humanitarian law trainings for all our Military Forces. We will strengthen the technical and specialized defense of the entire Military Forces and we will towards the Veteran's Law because we must honor our heroes”.
The new head of the Ministry of Defense expressed his commitment to support the general vaccination of the inhabitants that will begin soon and that requires great logistical resources.
"This, which is a task for all Colombians, is in the same way a new task for the troops. We are prepared to work across the territory, to accompany the logistics, to ensure the vaccination. Under the leadership of the Ministry of Health, military doctors and health services will assume and provide their knowledge and experience to vaccinate 35 million Colombians”, said the Minister.
He also said: “Colombians understand that security guarantees our democracy, that it is thanks to it that our freedom is possible and that we can fulfill our purposes as society. We will work with love to our homeland, shoulder to shoulder with the soldiers and police men of Colombia until we achieve victory; a victory that allows our nation to live in equity and dignity”.
