For the first time, a United States nuclear submarine participated in the interoperability exercises conducted in the Caribbean Sea by the Colombian Navy and the United States Navy.
Defense Minister Diego Molano, who was accompanied by of the General Commander of the Military Forces, General Luis Fernando Navarro Jiménez, said this training and interoperability exercise aims to strengthen anti-submarine warfare procedures and ratifies the mutual trust of Colombia and the United States in that alliance in different operations.
The head of the ministry of defense recalled that in the Caribbean Sea there are common interests such as efforts against drug trafficking, as is the case of Operation Orion, in which 40 countries participate and leads to the finding of drugs.
“This exercise is done within the scope of NATO, and Colombia as a global partner country, seeks to adapt the best international standards in maritime operations,” said Minister Molano.
Minister Molano said this effort made by Colombia, made by the Colombian Navy in cooperation with the United States, mainly seeks to strengthen the alliance and particularly works for the joint work for the common maritime interests that we have on the Caribbean sea.
