Cartagena Coast Guard units with the support of National Police seized 1,539 kilos of cocaine on a merchant ship 9 miles away the Bay of Cartagena.
The result was delivered thanks to the timely call of the ship, which alerted the authorities about the presence of stowaways on the ship. Immediately, Cartagena Coast Guard units escorted the boat to a safe harbor where, accompanied by of Port Police units, they inspected the ship and found inside it 1,539 packages containing the illicit substance, stored in different containers.
By the modality used and the presence of stowaways, it is presumed that these would be responsible for hiding the illegal drug into the ship that would cover the route United States – Cartagena, with final destination in Morocco.
With this seizure, the Military Forces prevented about 47 million dollars (price of the illegal drug on the international market) from entering the financial structures of drug trafficking organizations in the Colombian Caribbean.
